It all began with an invitation from Caesar, a student from the Conservation Group. There, he met a tiny life — a male Japanese macaque baby named Panchi-Kun. Born on July 26, 2025, Panchi’s mother was a first-time mom, exhausted by the intense summer heat, unable to care for him. At birth, he weighed only 500 grams. Without human intervention, he might not have survived his first days in this world. So the keepers raised him by hand. To soothe the emptiness of losing his mother, they offered him several stuffed toys. In the end, Panchi chose a plush orangutan from IKEA. He clung to it tightly — as if it were his mother, as if it were the only warmth that wouldn’t leave. The animal world, just like ours, has its own rules — and its own quiet cruelty. Once his condition stabilized, Panchi was reintroduced to the monkey mountain, where about 60 macaques live together. Lacking maternal bonding, he showed signs of anxiety and isolation. He was pushed away. He was dragged. Some of these moments spread online, breaking many hearts. Yet he never let go of the plush toy — as if holding on to the last piece of safety he had in this unfamiliar world.
